More From The Track

New Zealand was once known as the island of birds, because there are no native mammals. Now there are several rodents that have decimated the bird population. However, there was still an amazing amount of birdsong in the forest. This first clip shows these birds that get really pissed off if you stop near them. They will fly around you, chirping and fanning their feathers, until you are out of their area.

This second clip is a kea (NZ's alpine parrot). They are to NZ trampers what the raccoon is to US backpackers. They are very smart and very mischievous. This one followed us for close to 15 min, while his buddy followed us in the trees.
